Colombia’s presidential election is a choice between war and peace: Senator

by Andrew J. Wight March 31, 2014

The upcoming Presidential elections are a stark choice between war and peace says Senator and congressional leader Juan Fernando Cristo, local media reported on Monday morning.

“This May 25, the country is going to play the possibility of consolidating peace in the country or to continue the war another generation.” said Cristo, who is part of the congressional coalition who support Santos for re-election.

“The only person who can guarantee peace Colombians is [current President] Juan Manuel Santos. He invented the process, his political capital is being spent daily and he takes into his hands the possibility of achieving peace for Colombia at the end of this year.”-Senator Cristo

“The only person who can guarantee peace Colombians is [current President] Juan Manuel Santos. He invented the process, his political capital is being spent daily and he takes into his hands the possibility of achieving peace for Colombia at the end of this year.”

The Liberal Party Senator made his comments during a campaign stop with community leaders in the eastern Colombian state of North Santander.

The comments come only days after another candidate for President confirmed that he would continue the Havana peace talks if he were elected and that he would keep the same negotiating team.
