Colombia’s new coach arrives to prepare for Mexico game

by Adriaan Alsema February 8, 2012

Jose Pekerman

Colombia’s new head coach, the Argentine Jose Pekerman, arrived in Colombia Tuesday to prepare the national soccer team for the friendly against Mexico later this month.

“Greetings to all of you. I am very happy to be here again,” Pekerman said after arriving to Bogota‘s El Dorado airport.

The 62-year old trainer has exactly three weeks to prepare the “Cafeteros” for the February 29 game in Miami’s Sun Life stadium.

The Mexico game will be Pekerman’s first after succeeding former head coach Leonel Alvarez who was sacked in December after no more than three 2014 World Cup qualifying matches.

The Argentine has until June to prepare his team for the next qualifier in Peru.
