Colombian tennis player Mariana Duque was eliminated in the second round of French Open on Friday.
Duque, who earlier this week advanced to the second round defeating Czech player Kristyna Pliskova, had to leave the tennis tournament after losing to French player Marion Bartoli.
In the match, which was postponed from Thursday, Duque lost 7-6 (5), 7-5 against her French opponent.
The 22-year-old Duque was the last Colombian representative in singles, played a close match, which she eventually lost after 2 hours and 11 minutes.
This was the first encounter between Colombian Duque and French Bartoli. The winner of this match, Bartoli will now advance to the third round, where she will face either Italian Francesca Schiavone who won the tournament in 2010, or Belgian Kristen Flipkens.
Duque, Colombia’s best-ranked female tennis player, never before has been able to survive a second round in a grand slam tournament.
