A soldier from the Colombian Army’s fifth brigade murdered his lieutenant in northern Colombia, reported local media Thursday.
The brigade said the soldier was “out of control” when he turned his personal rifle against the officer
Police said the soldier was captured while trying to flee with another soldier. Allegedly, the men had attempted to force a local bus driver to take them out of the area when they were intercepted by a local police unit.
“As soon as [we] found out about the situation, contact was initiated with juridical authorities and a commission was sent to the place to quickly bring clarity to the deed,” said an army statement.
The soldier is currently in custody and awaiting trial.
