CR’s Colombian of the year: Alvaro Uribe

by Adriaan Alsema December 29, 2010

Alvaro Uribe

Readers of Colombia Reports elected former President Alvaro Uribe as Colombian of the year, just like they did in 2009 when he was still leading the country.

Colombia news - votesThe former president beat current president Juan Manuel Santos to the honor in a photo-finish.

Uribe received 219 of 1103 votes (equal to 19.9%), while Santos received 211 votes (equal to 19.1%).

Third most popular was pop singer Shakira who received 15% of the votes. Fourth was baseball player Edgar Renteria who received 13.9% of the votes.

The preference of the participants in the Colombia Reports poll proved different to that of Colombia’s major news outlets who unanimously chose Santos as the country’s personality of the year.

Colombia Reports emailed and twittered Uribe for a reaction to the poll result, but received no response.
