by Joel Gillin September 4, 2014

Shakira and other Colombian superstars joined the world as it mourned on Thursday the death of Argentine rock star Gustavo Cerati, who died at the age of 55 after four years in a coma.

Cerati was a member of the popular and influential rock band Soda Stereo until 1997, when he began a successful solo career. He suffered a stroke in 2010 and had been in a coma ever since.

Shakira, Juanes, and Andres Cepeda all expressed condolences at the loss of the famous musician through social media.

Shakira tweeted: “Gustavo, we still have to do the most important song of all… I love you friend, and I know that you love me…as you taught me, ‘I will use love as a bridge,’ may this always unite us”
