The Colombian film “Choco” has been selected to be shown at the Berlin International Film Festival, organizers confirmed Wednesday.
Appearing in the festival’s Panorama category, “Choco” is the debut film from Colombian director Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza.
The film focuses on an Afro-Colombian woman who is forced to leave her rural home due to violence and poverty.
The festival is one of the world’s most respected cinematic events and is celebrated for its record in bringing debut films to a wider audience.
It is also the largest publicly-attended film festival worldwide, this year being held between 9 and 19 February.
Choco will also appear at the 52nd Cartagena Film Festival in Colombia, held between 23 and 29 February.
