The Colombian army evacuated 30 U.S., British, Polish and Mexican tourists trapped by a landslide in the northern part of the Sierra Nevada, near the Caribbean beach town Santa Marta, close to the Buritaca river.
While the landslide reportedly occurred Friday, the majority of the trapped tourists were not rescued until Sunday, some by helicopter and others overland, Efe reported.
The group was comprised of U.S., British, Polish and Mexican citizens. More than 60 tourists were present when the landslide occurred but around 30 managed to escape by themelves.
The landslide was attributed to heavy rains in the region. No casualties or missing persons were reported.
