‘Colombian army kills 15 FARC guerrillas’

by Adriaan Alsema March 26, 2011

Colombia news - JMS

Colombia’s armed forces killed 15 FARC guerrillas in the south-western Cauca department, President Juan Manuel Santos announced Saturday.

According to Santos, the killed guerrillas belong to the FARC’s special forces unit, held responsible for the murder of four policeman in the Cauca department a few weeks ago.

“Last night, in a joint operation, they did an operation and killed 15 members of those special forces (of the FARC) and detained one who was injured,” Santos said at a public meeting in the town of Pereira.

On his Twitter, the Colombian president congratulated the armed forces for “another blow to the FARC on the third anniversary of the death of [FARC founder and long-time supreme leader] “Tirofijo.”

The deadly military operation follows less than 48 hours after army forces killed 10 alleged FARC guerrillas in the western Choco department.
