by Samuel Moldovan September 30, 2014

Colombia’s August unemployment levels fell to their lowest since 2000, said government statistics agency DANE on Tuesday.

Colombia’s monthly unemployment levels

From June-August, otherwise known as a trimester, unemployment fell to 9.1%, .4% less than the same period last year.

The cities with the least unemployment were Bucaramanga (7,1%), Barranquilla (8,4%) and Cartagena (8,4%).

Those with the highest unemployment were Armenia (14,7%), Cucuta (14,6%) and Ibague (13,8 %).

Noticeable increases in employment over the trimester came from communal services and real estate activities, jumping 5.4% and 6.3% respectively.
