Colombia ranks 2nd halfway World Cup qualifiers

by Adriaan Alsema October 13, 2012

Colombia Paraguay

Colombia climbed to second place in the ranking of the South American World Cup qualifiers halfway the matches leading to Brazil 2014.

The climb in the ranking followed Colombia’s three consecutive wins over respectively .

World soccer federation FIFA pronounced striker Radamel Falcao player of the day after having scored Colombia’s two goals against Paraguay.

“Though it came as no surprise to see the Atletico Madrid striker in among the goals again on Friday, the two sumptuous left-footed strikes he conjured up against Paraguay took the breath away,” FIFA said on its website.

Colombia spent three hours on the number one spot on Friday, but was forced one place down by Argentina who, by beating Uruguay 3-0, secured its top position with one point ahead of both Colombia and Ecuador.

The Cafeteros’ next match will be against Bolivia. The date for this qualifier has not yet been set.
