Colombia’s National Police on Sunday said its forces have seized more than 2,000 homemade landmines in the south of the country.

According to the police, the 2,345 artisan landmines were seized in one of the rural areas of the southern department of Caqueta, a hotbed of FARC and drug trafficking activity.

Newspaper El Tiempo reported the landmines belonged to the FARC’s 5th and 15th front that are active in the area around the El Paujil municipality where the explosives were found.

“Thanks to a human source we were able to successfully conclude an operation that’s been ongoing for more than a month This is the second big seizure of this kind of weapons so far this year,” Caqueta Police Commissioner Jose Elias Baquero told newspaper El Tiempo.
