The Colombian Navy seized 0.6 tons of cocaine on boats allegedly on their way to the Caribbean Monday.
The cocaine was found in secret compartments of two ships that were sailing over the Atrato river that flows from the jungles of the western Choco department to the Caribbean.
The eight men aboard the two ships were arrested.
According to the Navy, the cocaine was intended to be taken to the post town of “Turbo, from where it would be transported to Central America and later the U.S. where it has a street value of $14 million.”
Spanish press agency Efe reported that the Colombian Navy has seized 32 tons of cocaine in the course of this year.
