The Colombian movie “Choco” will inaugurate the 52nd edition of the Cartagena International Film Festival, the organization of the festival announced.
The movie by director Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza will be shown at the opening ceremony of the festival on Thursday February 23.
“Choco” is about a young, displaced black woman trying to maintain her two children and her husband, a musician who only knows how to play marimba, drink and play domino.
Festival director Monika Wagenberg praised the film, saying she had “never seen a film that deals with the issue of race and gender at such a profound level.”
The Cartagena International Film Festival will be held from February 23 – 29 in Colombia’s colonial coastal city.
