Central Colombia bus accident kills at least 15

At least 15 people were killed and another 16 were injured in a bus accident on the road from the capital Bogota to the more southern Villavicencio, police said Saturday.

Several authorities told media that a bus crashed against the wall of one of the tunnels near Quedradablanca, some 40 miles south-east of Bogota. According to newspaper El Tiempo, the accident was due to failing brakes.

The injured were taken to hospitals in the cities of Caqueza and Villavicencio.

The road between Bogota and Villavicencio was closed immediately.
