Caterine Ibarguen wins Olympic silver in triple jump

by Adriaan Alsema August 5, 2012

Colombia’s Caterine Ibarguen won silver in the women’s triple jump final Sunday, making the 2012 London games her country’s most successful Olympics ever.

The Colombian athlete was beaten in the final by Kazakhstan’s Olga Rypakova who jumped 14.98 meters, 18 centimeters more than Ibuargen.

Bronze went to Olha Saladuha from Ukraine who jumped 14.79 meters.

Ibuargen’s medal brings Colombia’s score to three silver medals and one bronze, an all-time record for the country since it started participating in the Olympics in 1932.
