The Colombian capital of Bogota began a project to make cinema accessible for blind and deaf people.
Funded by the local government, the Accessible Cinema project uses specialized subtitles and headsets to make movies understandable for those who have hearing or seeing impediments.
Blind people can use headsets with audio explaining what is seen on screen, while deaf people are offered special subtitles that don’t just translate the dialogues, but also sounds.
Six Spanish-language films are currently being adapted to the needs of the blind and deaf and will be shown in public libraries and cinemas throughout the city.
