Colombia news - Benson

An United States Air Force veteran has been murdered by burglars in his home in the north of Colombia, local media reported Sunday.

According to the reports, the New York-born Benson Sheinkin was shot dead early Saturday morning in his after he and his wife found three burglars in their residence after a night out with friends in the nearby city of Barranquilla.

Sheinkin’s wife, the 52-year old Johana Patricia Cohen, told local media the burglars killed her 62-year old husband as he tried to prevent the thieves from taking his wife’s jewelry.

“One of them approached me to take my rings and Benson started to struggle with him. That’s when they shot and killed him,” Cohen told local newspaper El Heraldo from the hospital.

The New York born Sheinkin and his wife for 15 years had moved to the Caribbean coastal village of Santa Veronica little over a year ago.
