Colombian police have discovered that a drug trafficker wanted by the U.S.’s Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is already incarcerated in a prison in Colombia’s southern Valle del Cauca department.
U.S. authorities consider Emud Cañizalez Lozano, alias “Charles,” who is serving a sentence in Valle del Cauca’s Buga prison for the crimes of kidnapping and murder, to be a key player in managing the finances of Colombian and Mexican drug cartels, according to Caracol Radio.
The dual Colombian-U.S. citizen is wanted by the DEA for allegedly importing 78 tons of cocaine into the North American nation.
Charles is believed to have been part of extradited narco-trafficker Diego Leon Montoya Sanchez, alias “Don Diego’s” cartel. Authorities believe that more recently Charles looked after the finances for the “Los Comba” brothers.
The incarcerated drug trafficker may now face extradition to the U.S.
