Four soldiers have died in a plane crash in central Colombia, local and military authorities said Saturday.
According to a local fire brigade commander, the Cessna in which the four members of the military were flying crashed near Choconta, a village in the central Colombian Cundinamarca department.
The army’s Aerial Assault Division confirmed the death of the four soldiers later in the afternoon and said that investigators were sent to the location of the crash to learn about the causes of the crash.
The army said the plane crashed while on its way from the Tolemaida air base in the central Colombian Tolima department to the Saravena airbase in the northeastern Arauca department.
According to newspaper El Espectador, the plane crash was due to bad weather. Attempts to recover the airplane and the fatal victims were delayed until Sunday.
