Two former Colombian governors were barred from public office for 17 and 12 years on Tuesday over alleged corruption.
The country’s Inspector General’s Office barred former governor Juan Carlos Abadia for 17 years and his former Health Secretary Hector Fabio Useche for 12 years. The two ex-officials were sentenced after the Inspector General’s Office found irregularities in a $500,000 contract for a weight loss program with a local hospital.
Abadia had already been suspended from office after illegally supporting a conservative party politician in the 2010 presidential elections.
Useche and another 11 people have had over $60 million worth of property seized because of an investigation involving contract irregularities with the local liquor factory.
