The website of Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC appears to have been hacked and is promoting an Argentine party instead of spreading the revolutionary message of the guerrillas.
The domain farc-ep.co, registered by the organization with U.S. domain registrar and host Go Daddy, was activated in December 2010 and until recently was the place where the guerrilla group posted their public statements.
However, the website is now advertising a “Fernet Friday” party, apparently to be held in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires in May. The website makes no reference to the FARC whatsoever.
The organizers of the party told Colombia Reports they were unaware their website was shown through the FARC domain.
“This hack hurts us too because those on the other side, trying to access the FARC website, will find our website and I don’t think they will consider it very welcome news,” one of the organizers emailed this website.
Previous FARC websites have been the target of Colombian authorities who, together with the U.S. and the E.U., have determined the guerrilla group to be a terrorist organization.
