At least one person was killed and another 15 injured in a car bomb attack on a police station on the outskirts of Cucuta, the capital of Norte de Santander.
According to the National Police, the bomb exploded on Monday evening outside of the police station in Los Patios, a municipality that is part of Cucuta’s metropolitan area.
Apart from the casualties, the blast also damaged buildings and vehicles that were parked near the police station, police told local media.
In an initial response, President Abelardo de la Espriella said on social media platform X that he had convened a security council meeting “with the entire top brass of the security forces.”
“Wherever the terrorists try to sow fear, that is where the State will be with all is might,” said De la Espriella.
We will pursue with an iron fist those who threaten Colombians, until we capture them, dismantle their networks, and restore peace to our communities.

In the region around Cucuta, guerrilla organizations ELN and EMBF have been fighting each other. Organized crime groups operate mainly inside the urban area of the capital of the Norte de Santander province.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
