In a countrywide offensive against drug trafficking, Colombian police on Friday arrested another 22 alleged members of drug gangs, this time in the south-western department of Cauca.
The arrests were made in the town of Miranda in the north of the department where groups like Los Rastrojos, Los Urabeños and the FARC try to control an important corridor to the Pacific Ocean.
According to Caracol Radio, some 200 policemen took part in the operation that, aside from the arrests, led to the confiscation of 160 kilos of cocaine, 80,000 kilos of marijuana, 150 knives and eight firearms.
The operation in Cauca comes at the same time police made dozens of arrests in the northern and central parts of the country in which according to earlier reports between 30 and 42 suspected drug traffickers were arrested on Thursday and Friday.
