Rioters clashed with anti-riot police in Bogota at the end the annual Labor Day demonstration.
The violence erupted towards the end of the annual event in which some 10,000 protesters walked from the Plaza de Toros to the central Plaza de Bolivar.
According to several media, people threw home-made explosives, tear gas and rocks at buildings and police that responded with tear gas and clubs.
Authorities said some 20 shopping centers along the route were damaged by violent protesters, while the president of the country’s biggest socialist party Polo Democratico complained about the lack of professionalism of policemen who were unable to prevent vandalism and protect the majority of peaceful protesters.
Some 6,500 Bogota security officials were in charge of security in the capital on the day of the traditionally tense labor day marches.
