The Colombian army has seized 2.3 tons of marijuana that allegedly belonged to the FARC and destroyed several greenhouses used to grow the drug, El Espectador reported Monday.
The marijuana, which was kept in 44 pound packs, was hidden in a village between the municipalities of Miranda and Corinth, in the Cauca department, according to army sources.
General Rafael Alberto Neira, commander of the army’s Third Brigade, stated that the haul was confiscated from the FARC’s Sixth Front, in an operation Sunday which also saw the destruction of several greenhouses where the “high quality” drug was being produced.
The commander added that, in conjunction with the Colombian Air Force, operations are ongoing in the region and that there have been further seizures of weapons and certain chemicals necessary for marijuana production.
