Four soldiers and at least eight FARC guerrillas died in combat in the eastern Colombian department of Arauca on Sunday.
According to Spanish news agency EFE, state forces and FARC guerrillas clashed in the municipality of Fortul, 20 miles from the border with Venezuela.
Army sources told the news agency that troops were following rebels “who are taking the bodies of those killed in combat with them.” So far, the army says it found eight dead guerrillas.
On Saturday, the army said it arrested “Ivan El Quemado,” a suspected financial head of the FARC’s 10th Front in the same region.
