Facebook has announced that 20 million Colombians are now on the social media site with 60% accessing the network through their mobile devices, local media reported on Tuesday.
The communications director for Facebook Latin America, Alberto Arebalos, said that Colombian users sent 5.2 million instant chat messages and 1.6 million “likes” monthly.
The social media company recently established a formal presence in the country by opening an office in the capital Bogota with Sandra Quintero as the Director. According to Caracol, Quintero signaled that the company should take the recent data to focus more on their mobile platform to be able to reach even more Colombians.

The figure show not only the increased figures due to internet connections, but the increase in the use of smartphones throughout the country.
According to the Caracol Radio, the Colombian Ministry of Information Technology and Communication states that more than 8 million broadband internet connections are active in the country. Four years ago, it was announced that there were 3.2 million internet connections and 9.8 million Colombian Facebook accounts.
Last year there were 17 million Colombian Facebook accounts according to the social media site Socialbrakers, indicating a doubling of Facebook accounts with an even greater increase in internet connections.
