Women’s judo team clinches Colombia’s 3rd Olympic medal

by Sarah Kinosian August 1, 2012

Colombian athlete Yuri Alvear won a bronze medal in women’s Judo.

Alvear, who won the world championship in 2009, did not make it to the final round in the under-70kg category after losing in the semifinals to France’s heavily favored Lucie Decosse. She beat out Chinese competitor Fei Chen and Slovenian Rasa Sraka to claim third place in the competition.

This is the third medal Colombia has won in the 2012 Olympics in London, including two silvers from weightlifter Oscar Figueroa and cyclist Rigoberto Uran.
