Ecuadorean ambassador Raul Vallejo presented his diplomatic credentials to Colombia’s president Juan Manuel Santos in Bogota Friday.

During the ceremony at the Presidental Palace Vallejo said, “What we see in this close relationship … [is] a reason to hope that our relations will be a relationship that will always look to the future, ” said diplomat.

The ambassador also announced that Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa will visit Colombia during Bogota’s International Book Fair in May, where Ecuador will be the guest of honor.

The Fair will mark Correa’s second visit to Colombia since the two countries restored diplomatic ties in November 2010. In December Correa visited Colombia to deliver aid to the rain-stricken country.

Ecuador broke off diplomatic ties in March 2008 when Colombia attacked a FARC camp on the boarder of the andean nations.
