The Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will visit Bogota November 3 as the guest of honor of Colombia’s minister of commerce, industry and tourism, Colombian media announced Tuesday.
Jordano Taleb Rifai, who holds the highest position in the tourism industry, confirmed that he will travel to Colombia to partake in the country’s Tourism Race 2011, which measures the competitiveness of the tourism sector.
“Mr. Rifai will become acquainted with this country firsthand, and share his experiences with businesses and guilds in the tourism sector,” newspaper El Universal reported Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Sergio Diaz-Granados said.
The UNWTO, a member of the United Nations Development Group, collects tourism data from most countries around the world and complies the World Tourism Rankings three times a year.
Taleb Rifai, who previously served as Jordan’s Minister of Tourism, is UNWTO’s first Arab leader.
