Development for Bogota’s new metro system is postponed, Colombia’s transportation minister told RCN Radio Tuesday.
Minister German Cardona has delayed construction of the metro because he feels that the proposed policies of the mayoral candidates of Bogota are too contradicting. Although all the candidates agree capital is needed for the project, they disagree on how or where the metro should be constructed.
“You cannot throw away more than $40 million that the studies cost for the implementation of a Metro that will not fill the expectations of the new mayor.”
The metro project has seen several setbacks already. After the alleged public works corruption scandal of suspended Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno, the World Bank withdrew its financial support until there was “more clarity.”
Cardona hopes the postponement will only last six months until the new mayor of Bogota takes office.
