Colombia News -Accident on the road

A traffic accident on the road between the towns of Ibague and Armenia left several dead and many wounded Friday in Colombia’s central department of Tolima.

The accident occurred when the driver of a semi-truck carrying 15 tons of cargo lost control overtaking at a turn and crashed into several vehicles in an area known as Alto de las Palomas.

Tolima authorities have yet to specify the exact number of casualties; however several people have been taken to a local hospital by a fleet of ambulances in the municipality of Cajamarca.

The roadway could be shut down for at least eight hours while emergency crews clear up the wreckage and assist the victims.
