Eco-tourism ferries are cruising the Magdalena river after a 45-year-long absence. Tourism on one of Colombia’s major rivers was abandoned after the most important tourist steam ship, the David Arango Uribe, burned down in 1961.
New eco-tourism ferry Florentino Ariza will be the first one to ride down the Magdalena river.
To celebrate the revival, a festival will take place in the town of El Banco Magdalena from July 16 until 19, El Informador reported Wednesday.
The Florentino Arizo will only be the beginning of tourism on the Magdalena river. Various coastal towns already think of further plans like transfers, papayeras, folk dance festivals and some romantic couples dream of getting married in the middle of the river.
