Leaders of tourism and travel in Colombia have shared their favorite vacation destinations and sites to explore in the beautiful and diverse nation of Colombia.
The newly created Colombian Network of Tourism Journalists surveyed various leaders of tourism in the country to learn more about travel preferences, trends, and current issues affecting the sector.
Top tourist destinations in the country were quickly identified as Colombia’s coffee region, the colonial coastal city of Cartagena, and the beautiful Caribbean-side city of Santa Marta.
Preferred beaches were picked as Punta Faro on Mucura Island, beaches of Baru Island, and the entire Providencia island, famous for it’s ‘sea of seven colors.’
Experts also chose their favorite traditional Colombian villages, which included Barichara in the department of Santander, colonial town Villa de Leyva in Boyaca, and quaint Santa Fe de Antioquia.
The National Parque de Cafe was chosen as the top theme park in Colombia, followed closely by Panaca, Maloka, Parque del Chicamocha, and Amacayuca in the Amazonas region.
As for off the beaten path, tourism leaders identified the Guajira peninsula as being the best non-traditional tourism destination capable of converting itself into a world-class attraction. The region faces the Caribbean Sea and Venezuela, and is the most northern part of South America.
The advising group was made up of Tourism Vice-Minister Oscar Rueda, Avianca President Fabio Villegas, Aviatur President Jean Claude Bessudo, Vive Colombia President Fred Jacobsen, President of Anato Paula Cortes, Anato Board director Alonso Monsalve, and Panaca founder Jorge Ballen.
