Colombia will have a chance to watch Dennis Rodman play with an as-of-yet undisclosed cast of “basketball stars” in Bogota on August 8.
The game is being organized by Grand Slam Productions, in conjunction with the Bogota Mayor’s Office, as part of the Colombian capital’s Summer Festival.
The match marks another international stop for one of the NBA’s most recognizable players, who has also played in such disparate locations as Hungary, the Philippines and — in what was a subject of great controversy earlier in 2013 — North Korea.
News of “The Worm’s” imminent arrival, which comes less than a week after Colombia’s professional basketball league, the DPB, announced it will be adding two new teams, is another sign of the popularity that basketball has assumed in Colombia, and of increased efforts to sell the sport to local markets.
