Tarja Turunen on Medellin stage

Tarja Turunen, lyrical soprano of symphonic rock will perform in Theatre of Medellin University in March.

Known as the Finnish Diva or ‘Rock Goddess’, Turunen has been hailed as one of the best voices of all time. Crossing musical genres from classical to heavy and even death metal, she mixes singing with composing, acting and playing piano.

While singing in her former band Nightwish, between 1996 and 2005, created a new style of symphonic rock, mixing hard guitar riffs with classical vocals in a style that became known “Opera Metal,” copied around the world.

Turunen has received Best Finnish Artist nominations twice at the Emma Awards, the Finnish equivalent to the Grammys, and got a Grammy nomination in 2009 for her collaboration with artist Schiller.

She will perform in Medellin with world-famous drummer Mike Terrana.

Tickets are between $53 and $127, and are available from Almacenes la Musica and Carrefour.
