State employee fired for calling colleagues ‘mongoloids’ and ‘ignorant troglodytes’

by Simon Edwards October 21, 2011

Colombian News - Luz Stella Trujillo

A Quindio state official has been dismissed and banned from all state employment for ten years following a tribunal which exposed the appaling verbal abuse she has aimed at her colleagues.

Luz Stella Trujillo, registrar of public instruments for the township of Calarca in the Quindio department, was dismissed for referring to her employees as “mongoloids, idiots, ignorant troglodytes, chancers, SOBs and dogs”

Inspector General Fernando Brito Ruiz stated that the harassment law exists to prevent and punish conduct which detracts from the honor, intimacy and mental health of workers; that detracts from the good business environment and denies employees fair and decent working conditions.

The investigation began following complaints from within the Registry Office, which alleged that Trujillo had frequently used derogatory and insulting language towards her colleagues.

In his case summary Ruiz justified the harsh punishment on the grounds of the defendant’s repeated, public and highly offensive language.
