Colombia news - arrested

Spanish police arrested eight people in connection with a drug ring that smuggled cocaine from Colombia to Madrid and then transported it to the Spanish town of Almeria, 255 miles south-east of Madrid.

The police began an operation when they a Spanish citizen arrived in Spain on December 25, 2010, carrying 2.5 kilograms of cocaine inside a suitcase, reports to Radio Santa Fe in Bogota.

During the operation, police used a tracking device to follow the ring’s driver from Madrid to Almeria. The driver was arrested by Spanish agents of the Drugs Unit and Organized Crime (UDyCO) with 3 packets of cocaine weighing 1.5 kilograms in total. The arrest led to the arrests of 7 others involved in the trafficking ring and the search of homes in the Spanish town of Roquetas de Mar.

The driver of the car was accompanied by his 13 year old grandson so as not to draw attention from authorities.
