Spaniard smuggles cocaine in walnuts

by Matt Snyder June 23, 2011

A Spanish woman was caught smuggling cocaine from Colombia to Barcelona hidden in walnuts and wine bottles.

The smuggler was arrested carrying almost nine pounds of cocaine at Barcelona’s El Prat international airport. She hid the cocaine in 111 nuts, each containing about a quarter of an ounce of cocaine. The woman also hid liquid cocaine in her three wine bottles, each of which contained about 1.5 pints of cocaine.

The Spaniard has been charged with drug trafficking.

Barcelona’s airport has been the site of many unusual drug busts. In recent years, Barcelona authorities have caught smugglers hiding cocaine inside their bodies, soup packets, false leg, aerosol cans and in Colombian-brand chocolate bars.
