A soldier in southwest Colombia killed an officer and himself on Tuesday, Colombia media reports.
Edgar Mauricio Narváez Bejarano, a soldier in the Army’s 9th Artillery Battalion, killed Corporal Cristian Díaz Rodas, his commanding officer, before taking his own life.
The soldiers were reportedly in a tactical training session when Bejarano murdered Rodas. His motivations and method of attack are unclear, but the Technical Investigation Team, a division of the Prosecutor General’s Office, is looking into the matter.
Corporal Rhodes was 26, and had spent four years in the army. His body will be sent to his home town in the department of Caldas for a Christian burial.
Twenty-year-old Bejarano had spent 15 months in the army.
