Soldier arrested over girls’ school robbery

A soldier is among those accused of the recent armed robbery at a girls’ school in Bogota.

A Ministry of Defense press release obtained by Caracol Radio stated that several people were arrested for the January 29, 2011 robbery of the Rosario Santo Domingo girls school in Bogota.

Among those arrested was a soldier for the 13th Battalion of the Military Police who currently works in the Security Group for the Ministry of Defense.

The press release said that since the incident happened in January the proper authorities have been put on the case to investigate, and added that the soldier in question is in the hands of the competent authorities and has exercised his right to defense.

On January 29, 2011 a group of heavily armed men seized the Rosario Santo Domingo school and robbed students who were waiting to buy school supplies.
