Sofia Vergara talks thyroid conditions, egg-freezing

by Benjy Hansen-Bundy April 18, 2013

Barranquilla bombshell Sofia Vergara on Wednesday spoke with Good Morning America about living with hypothyroidism, a condition that developed after she had thyroid cancer in 2000.

“It [hypothyroidism] changes your mood, it changes your fertility, it changes so many things and the sad thing is that it can be checked with a simple blood test. It’s not like you have to go through a colonoscopy or something horrible,” Vergara said with a charming smile.

Vergara champions a corporate campaign to increase awareness of hypothyroidism and its treatability. “Follow the Script,” backed by the research and development wing of the global pharmaceuticals giant, Abbott Laboratories, advocates vigilance in maintaining the hormone pill regimen.

Also under discussion on Good Morning America was the freezing of eggs.

“I’m 40 years old, nothing happens that naturally anymore,” Vergara claimed. “I took them out already. They’re in a refrigerator.”
