Sofia Vergara slams media for “disrespectful” reporting

Colombian model and actress Sofia Vergara on Wednesday slammed the media on Twitter for what she called “disrespectful” reporting on the 1996 murder of her older brother Rafael Jose Vergara.

The Modern Family star’s brother was gunned down in the family’s hometown of Baranquilla, Atlantico near Colombia’s Caribbean coast.

A recent National Enquirer interview with an alleged private investigator, Marcos Rubio, supposedly uncovered details about a relationship between her married brother and a local mafia boss’ girlfriend.

Rubio commented to Enquirer saying, “Clearly the police investigation into Sofia’s brother’s death should focus on this organized crime boss and his associates … There is evidence that needs to be looked at in terms of their possible connection to the murder.”

Vergara responded to the claims on Twitter.

Bogota newspaper, El Espectador, also published the story under the title, “Sofia Vergara reopens investigation into the murder of her brother.” Vergara tweeted about El Espectador saying, “My family is not reopening any investigations. People of El Espectador, investigate before publishing stories.”

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton stated on his website referring to Marcos Rubio’s alleged findings that, “we hope Sofia and her family find the peace and justice they’ve been seeking!”

Vergara directed a tweet at the blogger who apparently had no idea about what her family was seeking.
