Colombia’s superstar actress Sofia Vergara walked out of the Emmys on Sunday night with a ripped dress and no prize.
Sofia Vergara has garnered international fame for her role as glamorous Colombian housewife “Gloria Delgado-Pritchett” in the hit ABC family sitcom, “Modern Family,” but has so far failed to win the Outstanding Supporting Actress at the the Primetime Television Award Show; this was her fourth nomination.
Julie Bowen, Vergara’s co-star and step daughter in “Modern Family,” also failed to win in the same category.
In the end, actress Merritt Wever took home the prize for her role in the show, “Nurse Jackie” on Showtime, delivering perhaps the shortest speech in the history of the show: “Thank you so much. I’ve got to go.”
Barranquilla-born Vergara was wearing a red Vera Wang dress that ripped along the red carpet as she was entering the award ceremony, her dress ripped last year as well.
Sofia Vergara is the highest-paid actress on TV, earning $30 million – three times as much as her closest rival. She credits much of her success to her Colombian roots.
