Shakira invited to samba at Rio Carnaval

by Başak Çopuroğlu January 17, 2012

Colombia events - Shakira

Colombian superstar Shakira gets an invitation to parade with samba school ”Renascer” in the world-famous Rio Carnaval next month.

Renascer, whose performance opens the spectacular carnival parades on February 19, also invited the legendary snake-hipped actor John Travolta to join them.

”The invitation is made. Now we have to wait for a gap in their schedules,” said Renascer’s artistic director, Edson Pereira.

Renascer, a small school which recently entered Rio’s elite category, is dedicating this year’s parade to a Brazilian artist Romero Britto, a personal friend of Shakire and Travolta, according to Pereira.

One of the theme’s of the parade will be ”Art of consumption and the consumption of art’,” which will include a dance imitating those in the musical ”Grease,” which starred Travolta.
