Colombian superstar Shakira has been unveiled by the French government as a Knight of the order of Arts and Letters.
So surprised were French authorities that an outsider would want to learn words largely useless outside of France, Canada and West Africa, they felt the only recourse available was to pin a medal on the pint-sized beauty.
The song “Je l’aime a mourir” equally confounded the French public, causing them to rush out and buy it in huge quantities, despite how it sounds.
The award is France’s third-most significant artistic accolade and places the pop princess amongst the likes of film director Tim Burton, Australian singer Kylie Minogue and hollywood dreamboat George Clooney.
The announcement caused consternation in some circles owing to the fact she was only made a knight of the order, when far less significant people such as writer T.S. Elliot, singer Bob Dylan, and Czech poet-president Vaclav Havel had been made commanders.
