Colombia news/Shakira

Shakira and her charity organization, Pies Descalzos, have joined forces with other notable Colombian foundations to open the first child development center in the western Choco department.

Along with Pies Descalzos, the “Grand Alliance First Things First” is comprised of foundations aeioTU, Mario Santodomingo, ALAS, and the first lady of Colombia, Maria Clemencia Rodriguez de Santos.

The first center is located in the CABI Quibdo neighborhood and will provide children up to five years old with education, nutrition and care.

The Grand Alliance First Things First made a $1.5 billion investment and will build 13 other centers throughout the country aimed at improving the lives of Colombia’s children.

The first lady, or Tutina as she’s affectionately known, accompanied children to school on Thursday while Shakira sent her best wishes to the children of Choco.
