Shakira and Sofia Vergara among top 10 most dangerous internet searches: McAfee

by Esteban Refshauge September 17, 2012

Shakira and Sofia Vergara are among the top ten most dangerous celebrities to search for online, according to a recent study by McAfee.

“Cybercriminals follow the latest trends, often using the names of popular celebrities to lure people to sites that are actually laden with malicious software that are designed to steal passwords and personal information,” reported the leading U.S. software security company.

“Given the wealth of data and high interaction, consumers often forget the risks they are taking by clicking on links,” said Paula Greve, director of McAfee’s Web security research.

Emma Watson of the famous Harry Potter saga topped the list as the world’s most dangerous cyber celebrity. Jessica Biel, Eva Mendes, Selena Gomez, Halle Berry, Megan Fox, Cameron Diaz and Salma Hayek also made the top ten.

The survey made clear that women are more dangerous than men in terms of the results thrown up by an internet search.
