The Colombian Senate will summon Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera to clarify comments made by President Juan Manuel Santos on Tuesday that there are no longer FARC camps in Venezuela, El Espectador reports.
According to the second vice president of the Senate, Alexandra Moreno Piraquive, the government must explain to the public Santos’ statement in light of the video evidence submitted to the Organization of American States (OAS) in July last year of 87 FARC camps in Venezuela.
In an interview with Spanish television earlier this week, Santos declared regarding the FARC presence in the neighboring nation, “We are satisfied that the camps that we had previously located are no longer there.”
The head of state’s comments were instantly scrutinized, with former President Alvaro Uribe questioning the veracity of the statement via his Twitter account in a series of “tweets” titled “Terrorist hiding place.”
